The Early Days

How I got started in the Soup Business

Updated Feb 2, 2025 (8 Year Anniversary!)

A couple of years ago my sister-in-law, Liz, suggested the business idea to me.  She knows I love to cook and knew someone who ran a similar business and figured it would be a great way for me to get back into working after being a stay-at-home mom for years.

After a little prodding, I decided to try it out.  I spent a few weeks planning and finally took the plunge on February 2, 2017.  What was on the menu that first week?  Lasagna Soup.  After sending out what has become my weekly email (to 7 people), I waited and waited and waited for my first order.  Finally, one of my really good friends, Erin ordered 64 oz & 1 loaf of Double Protein bread.  As I look back, without that first order, I may not be writing this story!

Early days at Soup(er)

That first week I sold just 3 orders ... Erin's, my sister-in-law Liz and my husband Tony.  In the end, Liz was right, the combination of my cooking obsession and helping people eat a healthy, home-cooked meal together as a family has proven to be a great combination.  In today's world, families struggle to balance their busy schedules, I make it my mission to help at least make one night easy!

In 2019, I moved into a proper space, partnering with Z Place for Wine & Cheese utilizing their commercial kitchen.  About a year later, with the pandemic changing our lives, I expanded once again.  This time into MPH Brewing commercial kitchen, where I have been ever since. I have been delivering soup & bread (and now occasional desserts from Jenny Sue Delights) over 270 weeks since that first order, having delivered 8,500+ orders to over 500 customers.  I take pride in what I do and hope that you enjoy the food and the service.

Other Interesting Stats since opening:

  • Over 500,000oz of soup served (Tony always likes to call out over 250 Kegs!)
  • Baked & delivered over 7,000 loaves of bread!
  • My menu gets emailed out to over 700 families each week
  • Reining most popular soup champion:  Chicken Noodle Soup with Matzo Balls
